Job Summary

The Director of Assessment and Curriculum leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum and assessment framework and standards across the American InterContinental System (AIUS). This role fosters a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation, ensuring curriculum and assessment methods, approaches, and practices promote student learning,  and program effectiveness. With expertise in both curriculum development and assessment of student learning, the Director ensures alignment of curriculum and assessment methodology with innovative pedagogical practices, accreditation requirements, industry standards, and AIUS mission consistently across all schools and colleges within the system. The Director will collaborate with academic leadership to implement comprehensive assessment methods and standards, analyze results, and communicate findings to drive meaningful improvements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Development and Oversight

  • Develop and maintain curriculum standards and methodologies based on innovative pedagogies and best practices, and caters to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Ensure that curriculum design incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, latest in research and best practices, and is relevant
  • Engage in continuous improvements in AIUS’ holistic program development and revision model
  • Assist in creating learning outcomes, competencies, and objectives, and scaffold content for progression in learning
  • Review course content for alignment with outcomes, clarity in expectations of student work, and resources that will promote learner engagement.
  • Guide faculty and instructional designers in developing robust, inclusive, and engaging course content.
  • Manage system-wide curriculum initiatives and facilitate adoption of new teaching methods and technologies.
  • Ensure proper documentation for program, course, and assessment development.
  • Review programs for alignment of outcomes and content at various levels to make improvements

2. Assessment Strategy and Implementation

  • Continue to enhance consistent, system-wide assessment frameworks and methods to accurately measure student learning outcomes, program quality, and instructional effectiveness.
  • Ensure that new programs and revisions follow established standards, methodology, and processes for assessment related to direct measures of student learning
  • Direct the creation of rubrics and validate for psychometric accuracy
  • Provide training and support on effective formative and summative assessment tools, including rubrics and alternative models.
  • Maintain curriculum and assessment handbooks, ensuring alignment with accreditation and regulatory standards and methodologies and system-wide assessment policies
  • Chair the AIUS Assessment Advisory Council and collaborate with external experts to introduce innovative practices.
  • Represent AIUS’s curriculum and assessment initiatives to external agencies and organizations.

3. Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Ensure assessment measures are psychometrically sound and reliable and valid.
  • Conduct  workshops for training on inter-rater reliability and calibration exercises
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of assessment data to inform strategic changes in pedagogy, curriculum, instruction, assessment and student support practices.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research to report assessment outcomes and support planning and budgeting decisions.

4. Faculty and Staff Collaboration

  • Lead professional development sessions on curriculum design and assessment.
  • Train subject matter experts to apply AIUS curriculum development standards and address diverse student demographics across each member institution.
  • Foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders to ensure consistent adherence to documentation standards, procedures, and timelines.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging feedback from faculty, staff, and students.

5. Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Terminal degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in online curriculum development and student learning assessment.
  • Proven success in leading program assessment initiatives and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Documented instructional design and curriculum development experience in an online setting.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Expertise in instructional design, curriculum frameworks, assessment methodologies, and data-driven practices.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with technology for curriculum and assessment, including LMS and assessment management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to inspire collaboration and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in academic leadership, such as department chair or curriculum coordinator.
  • Familiarity with regional accreditation and program-specific standards.
