The Senior Manager-Employee Relations is responsible for managing the ER team, driving a culture supportive of positive employee relations across the organization, and assisting in the development and implementation of ER strategies, policies, and training that mitigate risk for the organization.  The Senior Manager-Employee Relations will take a hands-on approach to leading the ER team, including resolving cases or investigations as needed.


The ER team is responsible for: providing advice and guidance to managers to address employee performance and conduct issues (including but not limited to corrective action, performance improvement plans, disciplinary counseling, harassment, sexual harassment, ethics hotline submissions, and code of conduct violations); significant involvement with Leave of Absence and ADA Accommodations management; creation and execution of ER related training; policy administration; other ER related matters as assigned.

  • Manage and coach team of two Employee Relations Business Partners and guide HR Business Partners , as appropriate in resolving campus level employee relations matters

  • Guide ERBP’s in their discussions with Management to continuously assess workforce trends and behaviors and provide proactive solutions to address issues before they impact the business. Work with management to maintain awareness of applicable policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations as they pertain to the workforce.

  • Oversee ER case management system and assign cases accordingly. 

  • Provide guidance on employee relations concerns; appropriately escalate issues as required.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Security, and HR teams on matters affecting the organization or employee relations cases as appropriate. 

  • Lead the development and delivery of training on employee relations matters. 

  • Analyze data and reports to make recommendations that will contribute to a proactive/positive employee relations environment

  • Lead high risk employee relations and ethics investigations through resolution

  • Complete monthly reporting of ER team activity

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies

  • Extensive expertise with HR Laws, including but not limited to FLSA, FMLA, and ADA

  • Demonstrated ability to attentively listen to others and probe to assure clear understanding of the intent behind what is being said.

  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills; speaking to individuals and groups formally and in an impromptu manner that is clear, engaging and compelling.  Interaction with all levels of employees, including front line and senior level leaders.

  • Expert level in providing feedback and coaching; delivers timely, honest and constructive feedback and coaching.

  • Highly developed organizational agility; works through organizational structure and politics to efficiently accomplish objectives.

  • Extensive expertise in conflict management; manages interpersonal dynamics and diplomatically resolves conflicting points of view and objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence others; moving others to a different point of view in a diplomatic manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve; probe, see hidden problems and use rigorous logic to solve problems.

Education and Experience:  Minimum

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or international equivalent)

  • 7-10 years of experience in HR/Employee Relations

  • 3+ years of experience in an HR leadership role


Education and Experience:  Preferred

  • Master’s Degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or international equivalent)
