The Associate Director of Career Services is responsible for leading and developing the Advisors and initiatives within the Career Services Department.  This position will manage goal setting under the direction of the Director of Alumni & Career Services, coaching and placement processes, special projects, and departmental resources and tools.  Supporting the alumni team’s efforts, encompassing alumni engagement and the commencement ceremonies, is also a responsibility of the role. The Associate Director of Career Services will manage key initiatives and partner with the peer Associate Directors of Career Services to drive understanding, calibration, and action throughout the university team.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Manage day to day activities of a team of direct reports; including student support, compliance management, and overall performance management

  • Collaborate with peers in other locations and across departments on initiatives to assist student and alumni career success

  • Develop on-campus and/or online student facing events to promote the department and student employment

  • Train and coach new and current advisors in the department to support their growth and development

  • Perform auditing functions ensuring that quality services are provided and all accreditation, state and federal regulations are followed in the Graduate File

  • Ensure documentation requirements have been met in the student file involving student – advisor contact and services provided

  • Provide professional development opportunities for students through workshops such as Interviewing skills, resume writing, networking, professional image, portfolio development and business etiquette, job fairs and career days.

  • Analyze AIU student/alumni employment trends and feedback about the employment market and incorporate into effective marketing strategies

  • Organize team in developing the various student and university resource development initiatives, such as blogs, articles, announcements, career workshops, and other publications incorporating internal and external career searching strategies and practices

  • Partner with the alumni services team to help cultivate engagement in alumni programs and offerings within the AIU community

  • Assist with commencement planning, execution, and day of logistics to offer an exceptional graduation experience

  • Participate and represent Career Services in cross-department initiatives within the university

  • Lead team trainings, meetings, and/or department focus groups to evolve the service levels of the team

  • Analyze and be able to discuss student employment outcomes and trends

  • Serve on committees and lead projects as assigned

  • Represent Career Services in Institutional Effectiveness meetings and functions

  • Manage escalated service-related issues or complaints

  • Continue ongoing maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and staff resources

  • Fostering positive energy and positive morale for the staff

  • May require occasional travel to other locations

  • Requires the ability to work a manager schedule, including more than 40 hours, evenings, weekends to accommodate student and department needs

  • Manages to all university policies, procedures, integrity and ethical standards

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies

 

  • Strong process and procedure implementation skills

  • Certified Professional Resume Writer credential must be earned within the first 9 months of employment

  • New employees will be trained and expected to be knowledgeable of all school and company policies and procedures, all applicable federal and state regulations and all accrediting agencies standards and requirements relating to Career Services

  • Ability to lead a team through influence and authority

  • Excellent follow up skills and ability to successfully multi-task, prioritize and manage time

  • Ability to communicate well with a diverse population, to include, excellent verbal, written and listening skills

  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to lead trainings and meetings

Education and Experience:  Minimum

 

  • Bachelor degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or international equivalent)

  • 3+ years’ experience in a management position

  • 3+ years of experience in Career Coaching, Staffing or Recruitment

Position is not remote and must live in IL and commute to Schaumburg area 


Education and Experience:  Preferred

 

  • 5+ years of experience in a career services role

  • 5+ years of experience in a management role

  • 3+ years of experience in event coordination

  • Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) credential

  • Experience with E-Learning technology products such as Captivate and Adobe Connect
